The American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) is an invasive amphibian species in the UK, introduced through the pet trade and accidental escapes. Native to North America, this large frog is a voracious predator, feeding on a wide range of invertebrates, amphibians, and even small birds, posing significant threats to native ecosystems. Additionally, it is a known carrier of the chytrid fungus (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis), exacerbating its ecological impact. Although eradication efforts have been largely successful, small populations and isolated individuals may still persist in the UK, requiring ongoing monitoring.
